KARACHI: Another person died of Naegleria fowleri in a private hospital on Thursday, raising the patients death toll to eight in Karachi in 2015.
Mushammad Talib Ali Khan, 56, a resident of Samanabad FB Area Gulberg Town was diagnosed with brain eating amoeba on 9th June 2015 and was under treatment in a private hospital where he lost his life the other day.
Director Health Karachi, Dr Zafar Ejaz confirmed the patient’s death due to Naegleria and informed that death toll from Naegleria this year had hit eight.
He said awareness program under the banner of health department Karachi had been launched in various towns of the city to prevent people from deadly disease Naegleria.
Dr Zafar said town health officers had also been assigned to organize awareness programs on regular basis in their respective towns to create maximum awareness among general public about this diseases.
He said health department had constituted a committee to collect water samples to check availability of chlorine in water supplied to different areas of the city.
He advised the general public to ensure chlorination of water at homes, mosques, office and other workplaces to prevent Naelgeria in summer season. (PPI)
