LHC issues notice to IGP

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday issued notice for January 13 to the Inspector General of Police Punjab and Inspector General of Prisons, Punjab on a petition seeking security from threats extended by opponents who killed 14-members of a family in Gujranwala recently.

Justice Muhammad Farrukh Irfan khan issued notice on a plea filed by Javed Iqbal, imprisoned in Gujranwala jail, through his counsel Muhammad Aqeel Wahid.

Earlier, the petitioner's counsel submitted that 14-members of the petitioner's family were killed in Gujranwala over a dispute recently. However, the petitioner was saved as he was in jail because of involvement in a twin murder.

He said that the opponents were extending threats to the petitioner inside the jail, therefore, directions be issued to police for proper security arrangements.

The court after hearing arguments issued notice and sought reply by January 13. (APP)
