DG 1122 reviews the performance of Community Training Wing Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: The Director General Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) Dr Rizwan Naseer reviewed the performance of Community Training Wing, Rawalpindi for the year 2011.

The data revealed that Training Wing, Rawalpindi sensitized 22824 community members during 2011 and imparted training to 6266 under the supervision of Ms. Deeba Shahnaz Akhter, Emergency Officer Community Training.

Out of total 22824 covered strength in 2011, 13823 have been sensitized on Disaster Risk Management, 6266 have been imparted community training on Basic Life Support and Fire Safety Orientation, whereas 2735 first responders of emergency services from Rescue and Police have been sensitized on response to a radiological emergency.

The community members from Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Merryam Memorial Hospital, Coca Cola Factory Rawalpindi, Police Training School Rawat, Pak Army, IESCO, Punjab Boys Scouts Rawalpindi Division, Ibrahim Scouts, Metro Islamabad, Child Development Centre, Saba Foundation, ACE International Academy Bahria Town, Traffic Police, Allama Iqbal Open University, Pakistan State Oil Sihala, Ali Autos Islamabad and different School and Colleges have been selected for specific training. Besides community training, the Rescue trainers also sensitized 589first responders from Emergency Service Rescue 1122 and 2147 police officials from Police Service on response to a radiological emergency.

The emergency evacuation drills and exercises have also been conducted in Schools and Hospitals. Rescue trainer also raised awareness against dengue virus and rabbies in Colleges in the year of 2011.The Director General, Rescue 1122 appreciated continuous devotion of training wing of Rawalpindi and directed trainers to enroll Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) and impart training to them to identifying the risk and hazards of their respective area and resolve their issues through District Emergency Board Meetings, chaired by District Coordination Officer (DCO).

He further said there is need to work together with community for prevention of alarming increase in the number of avoidable road traffic accidents, fire incidents and other disasters to build a Safer Pakistan. (APP)
