The government on January 11 had terminated the contract of Defence Secretary with immediate effect for "gross misconduct and illegal action".
A Prime Minister House statement issued said the Defence Secretary was sacked "for creating misunderstanding between the state institutions".
Cabinet Secretary Nargis Sethi has been given additional charge of the Ministry of Defence.
