ISLAMABAD: The commission probing the memogate scandal has resumed the hearing of the case and said that Mansoor Ijaz is the prime witness in the case, therefore, his security should be ensured, Geo News reported Tuesday.
During today's proceedings, the court asked about Mansoor Ijaz's absence from his counsel Akram Sheikh.
Sheikh told the court that his client wanted to come to Pakistan but he was constantly receiving threats while on the other hand, he was not satisfied with the security provided by the interior ministry. He further said that the in-charge of the security must had been an army officer.
"The commission has ordered the Interior Minister (Rehman Malik) to appear before the commission today and explain his statements about Mansoor Ijaz's security," Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq told reporters.
The message had been conveyed to the minister who was expected to appear before the judges later Tuesday.
Justice Qazi Faez Isa-led three-member judicial commission, investigating the memo scandal, is likely to decide on Tuesday whether or not to go abroad to record the testimony of American businessman of Pakistani origin Mansoor Ijaz after he expressed dissatisfaction over security arrangements and is not coming to Pakistan.
