ISLAMABAD: As many as 111,956 children have been imunized against polio during the recent anti-polio drive jointly launched by the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) in the Federal Capital.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister and Focal Person for Polio Eradication, Shahnaz Wazir Ali at a meeting held here reviewed the progress of polio immunization coverage achieved during the campaign.
Chief Commissioner Islamabad Tariq Mahmood Pirzada, Deputy Commissioner Amer Ali Ahmed and the CDA officials briefed her about the progress of immunization coverage against polio and arrangements made with the co-ordination of all the attached departments.
The meeting held in the Chief Commissioner's office here was informed that the District Health Department achieved 100 per cent target and immunized 111,956 children in the rural areas of Islamabad.
The Chief Commissioner said that all the departments, including Islamabad Traffic Police, ICT Revenue Department, Local Government and Rural Development Department, District Population Welfare Department Islamabad, assistant commissioners and magistrates, teachers, lady health workers, social mobilizers were involved in this immunization drive.
The magistrates and assistant commissioners ensured strict monitoring of mobile teams through extensive area visits. Moreover, comprehensive logistic support was provided to the teams.
The CDA officials also gave a detailed briefing and special arrangements made by them in the urban areas for polio immunization.
While chairing the meeting, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister appreciated the performance of ICT Administration and the departments concerned.
She said that credit for this excellent achievement went to the Chief Commissioner under whose leadership, the team achieved this progress.
Shahnaz Wazir Ali directed the officials to do more hard work and involve all the segment of society including private schools, university students, parents, in the immunization campaigns to achieve maximum results.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Commissioner, Islamabad, Tariq Mahmood Pirzada, Deputy Commissioner, Islamabad, Amer Ali Ahmed, District Health Officer, Islamabad, Dr. Muhammad Azhar, Assistant Commissioners and officials of World Health Organization and Capital Development Authority.
