ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Monday released its Tax Directories of Parliamentarians for the tax year 2019 revealing that Prime Minister Imran Khan paid tax returns worth Rs9.85 million.
According to the directory, among other PTI leaders, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin paid Rs26.62 million in taxes. While Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar paid Rs4.27 million.
“This directory has been tabulated from returns filed manually and electronically till January 3, 2022,” the revenue board said, adding that all efforts have been made to ensure the correctness of the figures, but there may be some discrepancies due to filing or data entry errors.
The revenue board clarifies that this data only includes income and tax declared in return filed to FBR and does not include agricultural income tax paid to provinces, sales tax, federal excise duty, etc.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar only paid tax returns worth Rs2,000.
The FBR data shows Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif paid Rs8.24 million in tax returns while former prime minister Shahid Khaqqan Abbasi paid Rs4.87 million.
PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal paid taxes worth Ahsan Iqbal Rs55,656.
The revenue board clarifies that this data only includes income and tax declared in return filed to FBR and does not include agricultural income tax paid to provinces, sales tax, federal excise duty etc.
Among prominent PPP leaders, the party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari paid tax returns worth Rs535,243 while Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah paid Rs1.09 million.
Former president Asif Ali Zardari paid tax returns worth Rs2.21 million.
Meanwhile, former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gillani paid no tax in the period under review.
