HYDERABAD: An auto-rickshaw driver lost his life and a police constable received bullet in an encounter between police and armed criminals here, near Hirabad on Friday.

According to police spokesman, a police party of Hatri Police Station was on snap checking on Friday. Three suspects who were on a motorbike escaped from the spot when the police party tried to intercept them.

The police party chased and intercepted them near Hirabad, however, the accused armed with lethal weapons started firing, as a result of which, 25 years old Muhammad Akhtar, son of Muhammad Ashraf, the driver of an auto rickshaw received bullet wound on head and died on the spot.

The bullets also hit a police constable Shaukat Ali Lashari.

The armed persons escaped from the area, the spokesman said and added that search of the escaped accused is in progress. The police is also conducting raids in public and private hospitals as one of the escaped accused also received injuries in retaliation.

The police shifted the rickshaw driver's body and the injured constable to Liaquat University Hospital City Branch.
