Smith steers Khulna to easy win over Barisal

DHAKA: Dwayne Smith smashed an unbeaten 58 to steer Khulna Royal Bengals to an easy seven wicket victory against Barisal Burners in the seventh Twenty20 match of the Bangladesh Premier League played here at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Monday.

Chasing an easy target of 126 runs, Khulna made 131-7 to achieve their second victory in the BPL with 16 balls remaining. The winning stroke was a six by Smith who hit three fours and four sixes over all in his 41-ball innings.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Sanath Jayasuriya also hit two sixes each as they made 27 and 23, respectively in their brisk innings.

Earlier, Barisal Burners were all out for 125 in 20 overs after being put into bat by the Royal Bengals.

Mominul Haque top scored with 42, followed by Phil Mustard (25).

This was Barisal’s first defeat in their three matches so far in the tournament.
