President Shavkat Mirziyoyev leaves for Uzbekistan after wrapping up two-day state visit to Islamabad

• President Shavkat Mirziyoyev had met PM Imran Khan and President Arif Alvi during his two-day state visit.
• Visit marked 30th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.
• This was the Uzbek president's maiden visit to Pakistan after taking over his country's highest office in 2016. 

ISLAMABAD: Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev departed for his country returned on Friday as he wrapped up his two-day state visit to Islamabad.

The Uzbek president during his stay in the capital met President Dr Arif Alvi, and Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The visit marked the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.

President Arif Alvi meets Uzbek counterpart

Before his departure, President Alvi received his counterpart from Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

In the meeting, Pakistan and Uzbekistan agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries' youth and promote science and technology linkages.

The president expressed satisfaction with the upward trajectory of bilateral ties and reiterated the desire to promote multifaceted cooperation in all spheres, including political, trade, economic, defence, security, connectivity, education and cultural exchanges.

He elaborated Pakistan’s efforts for enhanced engagement with Central Asia within the framework of the “Vision Central Asia” policy.

President Alvi highlighted prospects of regional integration and connectivity to Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries through Pakistan’s seaports.

The two presidents also discussed key regional and global issues of mutual interest and President Alvi apprised President Mirziyoyev on the situation in Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Uzbek president’s meeting with PM Imran

On the other hand, President Mirziyoyev had held a one-on-one meeting with PM Imran Khan on Thursday.

After the meeting, both sides had signed a joint declaration on the “next steps in the strategic partnership” between the two countries.

Apart from the declaration eight agreements and MoUs were also signed between Tashkent and Islamabad.

This was the Uzbek president's maiden visit to Pakistan after taking over his country's highest office in 2016. He was in Islamabad at the invitation of PM Imran.
