KARACHI: MQM-P, the key ally of the ruling PTI, has put forth its demands before the PPP in response to the support on the no-trust motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan, said well-placed sources.

The sources privy to the matter said that the demands were presented during a recent meeting between PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and an MQM-P delegation.

The MQM-P demanded a 40% quota in government jobs for urban Sindh and an empowered local body system including the formation of a provincial finance commission, the sources added.

The party also sought a written agreement and the joint opposition as guarantor.

The MQM-P’s lawmakers will cast their votes in favour of the Opposition’s motion if PML-N and JUI-F give a guarantee to the proposed agreement between the two major parties in Sindh, the sources added.

Later, speaking in Geo News Programme Aaj Shahzaib Khanzada Kay Saath, former mayor Karachi and MQM-P leader Wasem Akhter said that meeting with Asif Zardari was held in a pleasant environment and we expressed our concerns on several issues, including the situation in Karachi.

“Prime Minister Imran Khan knows our issues, therefore how many times should MQM-P repeat the same demands to him,” he said in response to a question whether the party discussed their concerns with the PM during his recent visit to their headquarters.

He further said, “If PML-N and JUI-F play their role as guarantor on what Asif Zardari is promising to us, then we can go in favour of the opposition.”

We agree with MQM-P's stance: PML-N leader

Endorsing the MQM-P's stance on the Karachi situation, PML-N senior leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that MQM-P has a particular thought about Karachi and we agree on their stance completely.

The former premier said that the share in the government job quota was the right of citizens of Karachi.
