ISLAMABAD: A large number of people from twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi were entertained in the World Wide Fund for Nature - Pakistan (WWF - Pakistan) Annual Travelling Nature Carnival here on Sunday.
The event was organized in collaboration with Indus Motor Company (IMC) and aimed to enhance awareness about nature conservation among students and the general public through interactive games and competitions.
Over 80 schools and 20 colleges and universities across Rawalpindi, Islamabad Nowshera, Kharian, Jhelum and Peshawar are participating by constructing 3-D models and giving live presentations at the venue.
Various activities were arranged in the carnival, including an art competition, quiz competition, essay competition, interactive 3D model making competition, magic shows, environmental puppet shows, a lucky draw, live music and an environmental theater, some other interactive games and activities etc.
WWF - Pakistan has been working on environmental education for the past two decades; the travelling nature carnival is an integral part of its school outreach.
To increase the scale of the Nature Carnival, WWF – Pakistan collaborated with IMC to promote its School Environment Programme this year.
More than 100 project stalls were installed on various themes such as; Habitat conservation of endangered species (Snow Leopards, Green Turtle, Dolphin), Water Conservation, Solid Waste Management: Recycle, Reuse & Reduce, Energy Conservation - Alternate Energy, Tourism Vs Eco-Tourism: Explore Wetlands of Pakistan for eco- tourism, Documentaries on Industrial pollution/Solid Waste Management and Sustainable Eco-Architecture/ Agriculture/ Climate Change, Mitigation and Adaptation/ Alternate Energy.
The Travelling Nature Carnival is a culmination of these joint environmental endeavors. The funds-raised from the carnival will go towards WWF - Pakistan's conservation projects.
Chairman Bait-ul-Mal Zamurad khan was the chief guest of the event and Akira Kono from Embassy of Japan was the guest of honour.
Zamurad khan congratulated the organizers to arrange these environment friendly activities. and distributed the shields and certificates among the winning institutes.
