UGANDA: A viral image that shows a newly-appointed policeman shooting a catapult at the reporter allegedly in Uganda turned out to be fake, NDTV reported.

There were social media claims that a spokesperson from the Ugandan police tried hitting a reporter for asking “irrelevant questions”. The image that went viral on Twitter looks like a press conference with multiple microphones lying before him.

A Twitter user posted “Newly appointed Uganda police spokesman hits news reporter with a caterpult for asking irrelevant question,".

The tweet resulted in more than 25,000 likes and almost 10,000 retweets.

After it spread over social media like a forest fire, the Uganda police itself denied the claims clearing the air.

It was revealed that the image is from a press briefing in 2021 where the police were discussing the dangers of catapults. Fred Enga, the spokesperson, was cautioning the audience.

Having been called out for spreading misinformation, Abdullahi took down his tweet later.
