DELHI: In a rare occurrence, a female qazi solemnised the wedding of former President of India, Dr Zakir Hussain's great-grandson and journalist Qurban Ali's daughter, India Today reported.

Senior journalist Qurban Ali said that his daughter Ursila Ali got married to Gibran Rehan Rahman at Dr Hussain’s residence in Jamia Nagar. The ceremony was performed by Dr Syeda Saiyadain Hameed, a former member of the Planning Commission, as the Qazi, the publication reported.

Social media users were delighted by the "change," with some criticising the recent hijab ban declaration by Indian court proclaiming "that is called women empowerment not to hijab hatao and all."
