FIA clears Nadia Khan of defamation charges levelled by Sharmila Faruqui

• FIA's cybercrime wing official says no defamatory content found in Nadia's video.

• Nadia Khan expresses gratitude towards FIA for just and fair inquiry.

The Federal Investigation Agency's (FIA) cybercrime wing has vindicated Pakistani TV host Nadia Khan from charges of allegedly mocking PPP leader Sharmila Faruqui's mother Anisa over a makeup look.

FIA's Sindh cybercrime wing head Imran Riaz shared a video on his official Instagram handle to explain that Nadia has been cleared of the defamation case filed by Faruqui.

"I would like to discuss the case filed by PPP MPA Sharmila Faruqui against actress Nadia Khan, claiming that she [Nadia] tried to defame the former's mother," Riaz said in the video.

The FIA official said that the 40-minute video shot by Nadia on Pakistani actress Saboor Ali's wedding, which she later uploaded on her YouTube channel, has been closely inspected by his team.

"We didn't find any such content that proves that Nadia filmed the video with deliberate intentions to disrepute Anisa," Riaz said.

He added that "as far as sarcasm or facial expressions are concerned, the law is silent on this, therefore, Nadia has been cleared in this inquiry and the investigation has been closed."

Meanwhile, Nadia shared Riaz's video on her Instagram handle and expressed gratitude over her vindication from the allegations.

"Truth always wins," Nadia wrote while thanking Riaz for being a just and honest official.

What was the case?

The matter came to the fore when Sharmila lashed out at Nadia, alleging her of having mocked her mother for her makeup at a wedding event and filming her conversation with Anisa.

A bit of the said video went viral on social media wherein Nadia was seen asking Anisa from where did she get the makeover done and who taught her to do her makeup.

The video garnered mixed reactions where some said Nadia's way of talking was sarcastic.

At this, Sharmila sued Nadia for Rs50 million for "ridiculing" her mother, while Nadia also sent a notice for the same amount of damages.
