JALANDHAR: Famous British kabaddi player and captain of the international team Sandeep Singh Sandhu has been shot dead in a tournament in India, Daily Mail reported.

Per the article, Jalandhar police believe that it could be an underworld-style 'protection racket' hit or a professional rivalry.

Although a British citizen for 10 years, Sandhu visited India frequently for tournaments. The captain was shot between eight to 10 times at the end of the match. On arrival at the hospital, he was pronounced dead.

Clips from the incident show that several shooters were shooting from the periphery of the playing ground as people ran for their life. 

An investigation into the matter is currently underway, the article cited the police as saying.
