The bat-and-ball collaboration between the two batters lasted over 500 balls, making it the longest fourth-inning partnership in any Test.
In the previous innings, India's Rahul Dravid and Deep Dasgupta batted for 500 balls.
In 2001, the Indian duo accomplished the feat against South Africa.
On the final day of the Karachi Test, Abdullah Shafiq, who had been playing brilliantly, succumbed to the nervous nineties and was dismissed for 96 runs.
Pakistan were bowled out for 148 in the first innings of the Karachi Test after Australia declared their first innings at 556 for 9.
Australia declared the second innings at 97 for two, setting for Pakistan a 506-run target.
