LAHORE: The Defective Drugs Inquiry (DDI) Tribunal, set up to probe deaths caused by Punjab Institute of cardiology's spurious medicines, on Thursday recorded the statements of Abdus Salam Mufti, Ex-Director Drugs Testing Laboratory and Mouazam Ali Khan, Ex-Chief Drugs inspector.
They also produced documents in support of their statements whereas the Tribunal questioned them about various aspects of the matter being probed.
Muhammad Saeed Iqbal, Drug Inspector, Data Ganj Bakhsh Town, Lahore also appeared before the Tribunal and got his statement recorded.
He answered questions raised by the Tribunal but sought time to file his statement in writing and place along with documentary evidence on record. He was directed to appear before the tribunal tomorrow.
The tribunal issuing notice summoned Dr.Javed Akram principal, Allama Iqbal Medical College, Lahore, for March 2.
The tribunal comprising Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan of the Lahore High Court was conducting proceedings on day-to-day basis.
The tribunal is probing the mater to ascertain causes of deaths of patients of PIC caused by use of contaminated drugs, determine if such causes relate to the use of certain drugs, the source of such drugs, fix responsibility at each stage and to make recommendations to prevent such incident, in the future.
