Pressure to remove Prince Harry and Prince Andrew from their role as the Queen’s Counsellors of State is mounting, reported The Daily Star.
According to experts, Harry and Andrew ‘should be stripped’ of their roles as concerns over Queen’s health worsen, with many pushing for the law to be changed so the title can easily be taken away from them.
Prince Harry and Andrew serve as the Counsellors of State alongside Prince Charles and William, all of whom are entrusted with the task of stepping in for specific duties in the case of the Queen falling ill.
Currently, with Charles and William on royal tours and Harry living in the US, Prince Andrew is the only Counsellor in England.
Commenting on the situation, royal expert Peter Hunt said: “Both Charles and William are abroad. If the Queen becomes ill, either Charles flies’ home or Andrew steps in – an unthinkable move for many.”
“This is the reality of having no fool proof plan to cover all scenarios for when a 95-year-old head of state can’t carry out her duties,” he added.
Another royal expert Richard Eden chimed in with his thoughts, saying: “This is why Prince Andrew and Prince Harry must be stripped of their roles as Counsellors of State immediately.”
Both Harry and Andrew have moved away from their royal duties in recent years, with Harry relocating to the US with wife Meghan Markle and Andrew forced to retreat following accusations of sex abuse.
