JOHANNESBURG: Maritzburg United became the first club to reach the last 16 of the South African FA Cup with a 2-0 extra-time victory at home to Bloemfontein Celtic Friday.
Midfielder Kurt Lentjies set up both goals with crosses that Jabulani Ncubeni and Diyo Sibisi finished in a lively all-Premiership clash of teams who squandered numerous chances to finish the match in regular time.
Ncubeni broke the deadlock 12 minutes into the first period of extra time with a low drive past goalkeeper Thabani Stemmer after two team-mates failed to connect with a hard, low cross.
Leading United scorer Sibisi put the result beyond doubt two minutes into stoppage time at the end of 120 minutes when he side-footed another low cross into the far corner of the net. (AFP)
