Ramadan in Pakistan: Sighting of moon 'highly likely', says PMD

Meteorological department says weather will remain clear; moon will be visible in Karachi at 7:45 pm

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said Saturday that the chance of sighting the Ramadan moon was "highly likely" today as the nation awaits the beginning of the holy month.

The meteorological, in a statement, said the weather will remain clear and the sunset in Karachi will be at 6:49pm while the moon will be visible at 7:45pm.

The Central Reut-e-Hilal Committee meeting to sight the Ramadan moon will be held later today in Peshawar. Chairman Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad will chair the meeting.

In a statement, Azad said that the meeting will be attended by Peshawar's zonal committee members and officials of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Science and Technology, Met Department and SUPARCO.

Meanwhile, the other zonal committees will also meet in respective cities including Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Islamabad, he added.
