KARACHI: An Anti-extortion Cell, headed by DSP Wasif Qureshi, has been set up in Karachi on the demand of Small Traders Association (STA), Geo News reported Tuesday.
According to a Sindh Police handout, the move was made after a four-member delegation of STA, headed by its chairman Atiq Mir, held a meeting with Inspector General (IG) Police, Mushtaq Ahmed Shah here.
The handout further said that policemen would be stationed at check posts set up with the help of traders' community in South Zone within the next 24 hours.
After the above assurance, the Association announced to put off its strike call given for March 7, according to the handout.
It said Chairman STA, during the meeting of his delegation with the IGP, expressed his satisfaction on the steps taken by police.
