Aslam Madhiana remanded for two days

SARGODHA: Former PPP MPA Aslam Madhiana was presented before the Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) and was remanded in police custody for two more days in the teacher torture case, Geo News reported Thursday.

A case was also registered against 600 persons who protested in favour of Madhiana.

The police had earlier argued before the sessions judge that they have to recover weapons from his possession and demanded remand.

The court remanded the former MPA for one day and ordered the police to produce Madhiana in an ATC today.

The police arrested Aslam Madhiana from the Johar Town area on Tuesday. Earlier, the MPA’s interim bail was cancelled by the Lahore High Court (LHC) in connection with a schoolteacher’s torture case.

The LHC on Tuesday rejected the bail application of former MPA from the Pakistan People’s Party, Aslam Madhiana, an accused of torturing an elderly schoolteacher and fracturing his both legs.

Schoolteacher Nafees Ahmad, who was under treatment, was also brought to the LHC on a stretcher. After rejection of the bail, Nafees Ahmad, talking to the media, said that he had no hope to get justice but Tuesday’s hearing revived hope in him. If the high-ups would keep backing the thieves, how would the common people get justice, he asked.

According to the FIR, the accused, with his stooges, attacked the schoolteacher after he raised an objection against his criminal acts. The Supreme Court has also taken suo motu notice of the incident and has sought a report from all four provincial chief secretaries about steps taken to protect the lives and dignity of civil servants. The reports were sought on or before March 28.
