KARACHI: Interior Minister Rehman Malik Monday said that an Anti-Extortion Act would soon be brought in after passing a law in this regard.
During a media briefing here at the Chief Minister House, Rehman Malik said that a law would be passed to accept a police statement as testimony after which an Anti-Extortion Act would be brought in.
He said that an anti-extortion cell was being expanded immediately with the formation of a team based on police officers of DIG rank, members from ISI, IB and FIA.
Malik said that extortion would be considered as a non-bailable crime and seven years of prison would be rewarded under the Anti-Extortion Act.
The Interior Minister further said that an operation would be launched against extortionists from Monday night.
