Pakistani petrol, diesel relatively cheaper than UK, Bangladesh, India, UAE: report

ISLAMABAD: The new prices of petrol and diesel in Pakistan come in at Rs179.86 per litre and Rs174.15 per litre respectively. Despite these increases, the prices of both products in Pakistan are still significantly lower than those in the United Kingdom, India, Bangladesh, and the United Arab Emirates, The News reported Friday.

According to the available information, the cost of a litre of gasoline in India is currently equivalent to 96.72 Indian rupees. Because one Indian rupee is equivalent to 2.61 Pakistani rupees, the price of a litre of gasoline in India is currently set at Rs252.21, and the price of a litre of diesel is currently set at Rs233.70. These prices are expressed in Pakistani rupees.

Similarly, the price of a litre of gasoline in the UAE is currently AED 3.48, while the price of a litre of diesel is currently AED 4.08. In the United Arab Emirates, the price of a litre of gasoline is currently Rs191.93, and the price of a litre of diesel is currently Rs225.02, given that the parity between the AED and the PKR is currently Rs55.15.

During their time in office, the PTI government increased the price of gasoline by 68% and the price of diesel by 52.16%

In Bangladesh, the price of gasoline is BDT 89 per litre, and the price of diesel is BDT 80 per litre. However, because the BDT-PKR parity is currently at Rs2.3, the price of MS (Motor Spirit) per litre is equivalent to Rs204.98 in Pakistani rupees, while the price of diesel is equivalent to Rs184.25 in Pakistani rupees.

On the other hand, the price of a litre of regular gasoline in the UK is currently 1.59 GBP, while diesel costs 1.811 GBP. Because the pound sterling to Pakistani rupee exchange rate is currently at Rs255.07, the price of a litre of petrol in the United Kingdom is currently Rs405.66, and the price of a litre of diesel is currently Rs462.04 respectively.
