KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement has started removing its flags from public places in compliance with the decision taken in this connection at a meeting at the Chief Minister’s House on Sunday.
Wasay Jalil, a spokesman for the MQM, told The News on Monday that party workers had been directed to remove flags and other banners of the party immediately. He said that removal of flags was not an issue for the MQM.
The flags were only hoisted because the party had celebrated its foundation day last week, and various programmes were held across the province in this connection, Jalil said. A meeting was held at the Chief Minister’s House on Sunday in which certain decisions to improve the law and order situation in the city were taken, including the removal of party flags.
The meeting had also decided that if the party flags were not removed from the areas the SHOs concerned would be taken to task. The meeting also decided that hoisting of party flags on special occasions would also require permission from the local administration.
