KARACHI: The Excise and Taxation Department Sindh recovered Rs 2.75 million with a penalty of Rs 2.79 millions as Motor Vehicle Tax in a week long vehicle checking campaign throughout the province.
This was stated by Director General, Excise and Taxation Department, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, here on Thursday.
He said that on the directives of Sindh Minister of Excise and Taxation, Mukesh Kumar Chawla, special teams were constituted in Larkana, Hyderabad, Karachi, Mirpurkhas and Sukkur Divisions under the supervision of Divisional Director of Excise and Taxation, comprising ETOs , AETOs and Inspectors to conduct strict road checking.
Siddiqui mentioned that as many as 11,238 vehicles were intercepted and 516 vehicles found heavy defaulters of Motor Vehicle Tax, were impounded.
He informed that the documents of 1,584 vehicles were seized, however 640 documents were released after imposing tax and penalty amounting to Rs. 2.79 millions.
Director General Excise further informed that total sum of Rs. 2.75 million were recovered under Motor Vehicle Tax along with penalty.
Giving division wise breakup, he said that 18 vehicles impounded while documents of 906 vehicles were seized in Karachi.
As many as 220 documents have been released after recovery of Rs 9.3444 as a tax and Rs 87,200 as penalty 355 vehicles were impounded and 326 documents were seized in Hyderabad division adding that 183 documents were released after recovery of Rs 588804 alongwith Rs 70365 in penalty.
He said that 202 vehicles were impounded and 162 documents were seized in Mirpurkhas division adding that 136 were released against the recovery of Motor Vehicle Tax amounting to Rs 307,853 and Rs 38,821 as penalty.
In Larkana Division one vehicle was impounded and documents of 56 vehicles were seized, Shoaib Siddiqui informed.
He mentioned that 33 were released after collection of Rs 133,928 outstanding Motor Vehicle Tax alongwith penalty of Rs 450.
Director General Excise and Taxation advised all the vehicles owners to pay their motor vehicle tax in time and save themselves from heavy penalty and impounding of their vehicles.
