Lizz Truss, who has become the UK's next prime minister after a bitter race against Rishi Sunak, ignored her rival after she was confirmed as the new leader.

Unlike Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt in 2019, Truss and Sunak sat at a distance in the QEII Centre in Westminster with a vacant seat between the two, reported Daily Mail.

Reportedly, the seat was reserved for party chairman Andrew Stephenson.

With 57% of the vote, when the former Foreign Secretary walked to the stage she ignored Sunak whereas in 2019 when Johnson was confirmed as the prime minister, Hunt and he shook hands before Johnson strode to the stage.

The 2022 campaign was very different amid many challenges that face the UK. There was brutal infighting often seen over the television.

However, after the announcement, Sunak thanked everyone who voted for him and said it was time to "unite behind the new PM, Liz Truss".

"We need to show that we will deliver over the next two years. I will deliver a bold plan to cut taxes and grow our economy," Truss said after the result was announced, reported Reuters.
