KARACHI: Even after 16 hours of a major power breakdown since last night, K-Electric has failed to restore fully, the electricity to half of Karachi on Wednesday as citizens brave the calamity in the month of Ramazan.
The breakdown which was caused due to faults in two units in the Bin Qasim power plants affected: Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Gulshan-i-Jamal, Clifton, DHA, Shireen Jinnah Colony, Federal B Area, Baldia Town, Dalmia, Karsaz, old city areas, Saddar, Keamari, Lyari, and others.
The outage was further prolonged due to ‘National Grid tripping’.
Spokesperson for K-Electric said today that complete restoration to all areas of the city could take another two to three hours.
Sources at K-Electric added that top priority has been given to hospitals where power supply has been restored.
According to K-Electric sources, supply from 64 grid stations has been resumed. Furthermore, supply to feeders from the grid stations will start soon too.
Several hospitals faced hardships as operations were put on hold, while lives of patients were being saved by supplying generator power to ICUs and CCUs.
Many homes have been facing severe lack of water supply as well.
However, sources said electricity to Dhabeji pumping station has been restored and normal supply of water would resume soon.
