ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani Thursday termed the National Assembly Speaker's decision in his favour as a triumph for democracy, hours after getting a clean chit from NA Speaker in regard to his conviction by the Supreme Court.
Addressing a gathering here, the Prime Minister also recited a couplet of Ghalib: "Bay khudi bay sabab nahin Ghalib; kutch tau hai jiss ki parda dari hai."
Earlier today, the National Assembly Speaker, Dr Fehmida Mirza decided not to send the reference to the Election Commission against Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, ruling out his disqualification as a member of the National Assembly following his conviction in contempt case by the apex court.
The Prime Minister in his speech referred to the country's very first National Assembly speaker Maulvi Tamizuddin's approaching the court and regretted that 'had the judiciary listened to the speaker that day, the country's fate would have been changed'.
