ISLAMABAD: Senior lawyer Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan on Thursday told the media that Malik Riaz had contacted him to hire his services as a lawyer in the contempt of court case, but he refused to do so, Geo News reported.
Aitzaz Ahsan predicted that there would be no reference against the chief justice of Pakistan from the president in the backdrop of Dr Arsalan Iftikhar graft case.
It is pertinent to mention that the Supreme Court has given Malik Riaz seven days to hire a counsel in the contempt of court case today. The court also asked Riaz to not ask for more time for counsel's preparation after seven days.
“I am trying to contract high-profile lawyers including Aitzaz Ahsan but failed to succeed in hiring one. I am hopeful I will hire someone soon,” Riaz told the bench.
Real estate tycoon Malik Riaz Hussain is facing contempt charges over a press conference that scandalised and ridiculed the judiciary relating to the Dr Arsalan case.
The SC had issued a show cause notice to Riaz on Wednesday.
