ISLAMABAD: The coalition partners have authorised President Asif Ali Zardari to nominate the next prime minister. This decision was made during the meeting of the Pakistan People's Party and its allies here on Tuesday.
According to sources, the meeting also decided that the new prime minister will be from the Punjab province.
Meanwhile, PML-Q expressed reservations over the name of Ahmed Mukhtar, while former prime minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani raised concerns over the name of Makhdum Shahabuddin, sources told Geo news.
The National Assembly meeting will be convened either on Thursday or Friday and the PPP will make the final decision in this regard, it was further decided.
Chaudhry Shujaat, Mushahid Hussain, Babar Ghauri, Haider Abbas Rizvi, Haji Adeel, Afrasiab Khattak and others were also present in the meeting.
