Election of new PM on Friday: Khurshid Shah
ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly session to elect the new prime minister would be convened on Friday (June 22), Geo News reported.

Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leader, Syed Khurshid Shah told media that it has been decided to convene the NA session on Friday at 5:30pm, while the nomination papers could be submitted on Thursday.

The PPP is considering Makhdoom Shahbuddin and Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar for the Office of Prime Minister after the disqualification of Yusuf Raza Gilani.

The decision was taken in a meeting attended by senior leaders of the PPP held here on late Tuesday under the chairmanship of President Asif Ali Zardari.

The final name for the prime minister will be announced in today's parliamentary party meeting of the PPP.

Following the disqualification of Yusuf Raza Gilani by the Supreme Court on Tuesday afternoon, the ruling coalition met here at the Presidency in an emergent meeting to discuss the pros and cons of the Supreme Court's decision to disqualify Gilani as the prime minister and MNA. President Asif Ali Zardari chaired the meeting.

The participants authorised President Zardari to nominate the next premier. Former PM Gilani expressed reservations over the name of Shahabuddin during the meeting.

Also, the ruling coalition partners have convened meetings of their respective parliamentary parties to discuss the current political situation.
