MULTAN: Abdul Qadir Gilani, an MPA and son of former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, will contest by-elections for NA-151 Multan, left vacant after his fathers disqualification, Geo News reported Saturday.
According to sources, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) announced the decision of giving the party’s ticket to Abdul Qadir Gilani.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday announced the schedule for by-election in NA-151 Multan-IV for the National Assembly seat, which fell vacant following the disqualification of Yusuf Raza Gilani as prime minister.
As per schedule of the by-election, nomination papers of the candidates will be received on June 25 and 26 while the poll will be held on July 19.
Scrutiny of the papers will be done on June 28 and 29 and the last date for filing of appeals against decisions of the returning officer rejecting or accepting the nomination papers will be July 2.
Last date for deciding appeals by the tribunal will be July 4, while last date for withdrawal of papers will be July 5. Revised list of candidates will be published on July 6. The ECP also announced the district returning officer and other presiding staff for the polls.
