KARACHI: Prime Minister, Raja Pervez Ashraf has appointed Kazi Abdul Muktadir as Deputy Governor, State Bank of Pakistan for a period of three years from date he assumes office, according to a notification issued by Finance Division on Friday. He assumed charge of SBP Deputy Governor today.
He had been serving SBP as its Executive Director since December 2002, had been Group Head of Banking Supervision since June 2010, responsible for On-Site Examination, Off-Site Surveillance & Enforcement actions over all banks in Pakistan. Kazi, senior most SBP Executive Director, served National Institute of Banking & Finance NIBAF— training arm of central bank– as its Managing Director from December 2002 to June 2010 and converted NIBAF into premier centre of learning that is recognized in whole region.
Joining SBP in January 1997, he headed many key departments including Banking Inspection Department, Banking Supervision, Credit Information Bureau, Banking Policy & Regulations, World Bank Consultancy Project & Agricultural Credit. He revamped systems, processes to facilitate capacity building not only for SBP but its subsidiaries, allied agencies, instrumental in formulating, implementing policies as part of banking reforms process.
Collaborations, MoUs signed with Islamic Research Training Institute IRTI of Islamic Development Bank IDB, International Centre of Education in Islamic Finance Malaysia, International Islamic University, Federal Bureau of Revenue & COMSATS of Pakistan, Bank Akademie of Germany, Accounting & Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions Bahrain were executed by Kazi.
He represented Pakistan at international forums and has been member of number of bodies, task forces, including Conference of Banking Supervisors of Bank for International Settlements, HR Task Force of Islamic Financial Services Board, Selection Board, Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad, Board of Studies of number of Universities, committee on formulation of National Housing Policy and implementation committee on Trade Policy, Ministry of Commerce.
Before joining SBP, he served Habib Bank Limited, then Pakistan Banking Council. Earlier he worked in Canada, also served Sindh Agricultural University Tandojam, Aga Khan Rural Support Program, International Labor Organization project, Food & Agriculture Organization & Rabka Limited Karachi. He completed higher studies from McGill University Canada, London University, Sindh University & Karachi University. (PPI)
