HYDERABAD: Rain delayed the start of play on the penultimate day of the opening Test between India and New Zealand in Hyderabad on Sunday.

New Zealand, trailing by 279 runs, were 41-1 in their second innings at stumps on Saturday, with opener Brendon McCullum unbeaten on 16 and Kane Williamson three not out.

India earlier dismissed New Zealand for 159 in the first innings after posting 438, with off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin finishing with a career-best 6-31 and left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha taking 3-44.
