Elton John has been criticized over views about the scandal involving Phillip Schofield.
The disgraced television presenter Schofield was axed from ITV after admitting to an affair with a colleague.
Elton John reportedly said that reaction to Schofield’s affair with a much younger male colleague was “totally homophobic”.
He said that a relationship between a man and a woman with the same age gap would not have garnered such attention.
Reacting to Elton's comments, GB News presenter Dan Wootton said it is a case of “using homophobia to get out of the situation.”
He said: "The first thing I'd say. I totally disagree that this is about homophobia."
Wootton, who is also gay, added, "I just don't understand where the homophobia is here."
GB News reported that Schofield himself has suggested homophobia has motivated some of the criticism levelled at him, and has issued an apology statement on social media.
