ISLAMABAD: The British Council has announced that applications for the IELTS Prize 2023 are now open in Pakistan.
The annual competition supports IELTS test-takers with up to £5,000 towards university tuition fees in English-speaking universities, the British Council announced.
Pakistani students who have applied for undergraduate or postgraduate studies locally or overseas through IELTS and will start their course between January 2023 and March 2024.
However, the prize is also open to test takers living in Pakistan, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
Three winners will be selected through a competitive application process across all countries to receive a cash prize to support their studies.
British Council Pakistan Country Director Amir Ramzan commented on the prize: “Our IELTS prize winners have taken what they have learnt from their studies abroad and applied it to benefit their communities.
"With over 15,000 IELTS tests delivered in the past year, we have directly benefitted these candidates who have benefitted tens of thousands more.”
He added, "We truly believe international study and collaboration is a key to building a more peaceful and prosperous world for everyone, and we take pride in assisting these ambitious and intelligent individuals achieve their goals.”
According to the British Council website, this year's prize theme is "undertaking activities in your local communities".
"For the IELTS prize this year, we want to hear how you are undertaking similar activities in your local communities," the website stated.
Moreover, the website shared that the application process had two stages.
The application deadline for Phase 1 is September 15, whereas the last day to submit videos for Phase two is October 15.
According to the website, the IELTS Prize 2023 winners will be announced in November 2023.
