PPP, MQM to contest elections together: President Zardari

KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari said Monday that the MQM and PPP were allies and would contest the general elections together.

The president was chairing a meeting of the PPP and MQM core committees where the local government system was under discussion.

The president expressed hope that the PPP and MQM would be able to reach an agreement on the local government system soon.

Reacting to the violence in Karachi, President Zardari said strict action should be taken against those individuals who were destroying peace in the city.

Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat ul Ibad and Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah also attended the meeting.
