The temporary harassment order filed against actor Ezra Miller expired this week, a year after a mother accused them of inappropriate behavior towards her 11-year-old child.
In an Instagram post on Friday, The Flash actor expressed gratitude to those who supported them and criticised the misuse of protective orders for personal motives.
“I’m encouraged by today’s outcome and very grateful at this moment to everyone who has stood beside me and sought to ensure that this egregious misuse of the protective order system was halted,” Miller wrote.
In their statement, Ezra Miller condemned the media for spreading false claims and mentioned their commitment to their own well-being and reversing the negative impact caused by the ordeal.
“[Protective orders] are not meant to be used as weapons by those seeing attention or fleeting tabloid fame or some sort of personal vengeance when there are people in true and dire need of these services.”
The accusations against Miller were first reported by The Daily Beast, which reviewed evidence such as photographs, text messages, and eyewitness testimonies. The actor was alleged to have exhibited erratic behavior, explosive anger, and made the child uncomfortable by hugging them and pressing their body against them.
Miller's attorney, Marissa Elkins, clarified that Miller was never alone with the child and had only interacted with them in the presence of other adults. Elkins also stated that Miller did not have a weapon during those interactions.
Miller has been involved in various controversies in recent years. In 2022, Miller apologized for their behavior and revealed that they were dealing with complex mental health issues and undergoing treatment. However, these incidents impacted the release and promotion of The Flash, which performed poorly at the box office during its opening.
