Paying rich tribute to our forefathers who rendered immense and everlasting sacrifices for the creation of Pakistan and the martyred who laid down their lives for the stability and survival of the motherland, acting president and Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani on Monday urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to ensure the establishment of memorials of national martyrs in the federal and provincial capitals.
In a letter to the premier, Sanjrani said it is our duty to keep our martyrs alive in the hearts of the people, especially the young generation as we owe peace and order in our country to these martyrs. He added that the sacrifices of our martyrs are unforgettable.
The Senate chairman also said photographs of martyrs should also be placed at airports, government buildings, schools, major highways and railway stations which will help visitors understand that as a nation we revere our heroes.
He said this will also keep alive, the spirit of continuing the mission of martyrs, in the hearts of our young generation. He hoped that the premier will issue directives in this regard soon.
It is pertinent to mention here that the monuments and statues of martyrs of armed forces and law enforcement agencies were vandalized during the riots triggered by PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s arrest in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case on May 9 which led to the deaths of at least eight people and injured several others, prompting the authorities to arrest thousands of PTI workers.
During the protests, the miscreants attacked the civil and military installations including — Corps Commander's House (Jinnah House) in Lahore Cantt and the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.
The military called May 9 "Black Day" and has decided to try the protesters under the Army Act.
On May 24, PM Shehbaz reiterated his firm resolve to bring all the perpetrators of the May 9 incidents to face the law.
Addressing the “Azmat-e-Shuhada Convention” held to pay tribute to the country’s martyrs, the premier expressed his resolve to bring the elements behind the May 9 riots and attacks on the civil and military installations, including the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi and Corps Commander's House (Jinnah House) in Lahore Cantt, to justice.
He reiterated that the entire nation would not let such ‘barbaric incidents’ happen in future. The premier assured that as chief executive of the country, it was his onus to ensure legal proceedings under the law and constitution, against all those rioters and miscreants who had planned, abetted and executed attacks on different civilian and military installations almost across the country.
The premier said that the incidents of May 9 were intolerable and unpardonable as the monuments and statues of Shuhada (martyrs) of armed forces and law enforcement agencies were vandalised.
