BEIJING: Five people were killed and 20,000 homes were damaged when a series of earthquakes, one of them measuring magnitude 5.7, struck southwest China on Friday, the state-run Xinhua news agency said.
The largest quake struck around 11 am (0300 GMT) at a depth of 14 kilometres (nine miles) and was followed by a series of aftershocks, Xinhua said, citing the China Earthquake Networks Centre.
