ISLAMABAD: The police have withdrawn a First Inspection Reprot (FIR) lodged against journalists for protesting the murder of a fellow newsman in Khuzdar on the directives of Chief Minister Balochistan, Nawab Aslam Raisani, Geo News reported.
Earlier, CM Raisani ordered the withdrawal of police case registered against journalists.
In a statement issued he said that lodging cases against peaceful protesters was not only undemocratic but apolitical too.
“We will not tolerate such undemocratic acts”, he said.
Earlier police had filed case against the mediamen for violating a ban on entering the Red Zone in Khuzdar. They were protesting the targeted killing of a private news channel’s reporter.
He said gone are the days of dictatorial tyrants who gagged the media using black laws.
“Democracy prevails in the country and we believe in freedom of expression”, said he.
