SC refuses request to discharge Vani case
QUETTA: The Supreme Court has refused the request made by the advocate general to discharge the Vani case, with Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry stating that the case cannot be discharged on the behest of one advocate general.

During proceedings of the case, the provincial administration denied that the incident of Vani had taken place in Dera Bugti. The DCO of Dera Bugti informed the court that there was no evidence of the girls being given in marriage to settle a tribal dispute.

During proceedings the lawyer for the FC informed the court that the Frontier Corp was there to provide assistance to the provincial government. The notion that the entire province is controlled by the FC is not correct, he added.

The FC lawyer informed the apex court that during the last six years 432 personnel were martyred and over 600 injured.

Meanwhile the IGFC informed the court that 12% of FC personnel were natives of Balochistan and this would be increased to 20%.

The Supreme Court has taken suo moto notice of a jirga’s decision in Dera Bugti to give away 13 girls in marriage to settle a dispute.

According to reports, the jirga presided over by Masuri, a member of the Balochistan Assembly, and held during the second week of last month in Dera Bugti district’s Bakar area made the decision to resolve a dispute between two tribal groups.
