Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) has unveiled a $313.9 million Capital Improvement Project (CIP) budget for fiscal years 2025 to 2034. This significant investment aims to modernise school buildings, enhance capacity, and improve learning environments across the city.

According to Alexandria City Public Schools, the CIP includes a comprehensive plan to modernise George Mason Elementary School, ensuring its facilities meet the needs of current and future students.

Additionally, capital investment planning for Cora Kelly School for Math, Science, and Technology will lay the groundwork for future upgrades and enhancements.

Upgrades to the school system's bus facility will streamline transportation operations, while playground and sports field renovations will create engaging and safe outdoor spaces for students to play and learn. The CIP also allocates funds for ongoing maintenance and upgrades to HVAC systems, ensuring comfortable and healthy learning environments.

This CIP builds upon Alexandria City Public Schools' decade-long commitment to infrastructure improvement, having secured $558.9 million in CIP funds over the past ten years. These funds have enabled notable projects such as the redevelopment of Minnie Howard School and the transformation of 1703 N. Beauregard into a swing space.

Funding for the CIP is allocated by the city, and after project approval by the school board, ACPS receives authorisation to proceed. The city monitors the funds and handles all accounting duties.

To ensure community engagement, a public hearing has been scheduled for November 13 at 6:30 p.m., providing an opportunity for residents to share their thoughts on the CIP before its adoption on December 13.
