KARACHI: Defending Champion Pankaj Advani of India and Ng On Yee of Hong Kong clinched the IBSF World 6-Red Snooker Championship men and women’s titles respectively here at Movenpick Hotel on Tuesday.

Advani defeated IBSF World Snooker Champion, Yan Bintao of China 6-2 in the final.

The 29-year-old from Banglore, who had won IBSF World Snooker and Billiards and Snooker titles, confirmed his class by retaining his crown.

Chinese teenager Bintao after losing the first three frames won the fourth and fifth frame to make it 3 2. However, Pankaj came back with vengeance and took the next three frames in a row to shatter his opponent’s dream of completing a double.

Pankaj smashed a dazzling break of 71 in the 7th frame.

At the presentation ceremony, Pankaj Advani received the glittering trophy and cash award of $3,000 for this splendid victory. Bintao collected $1,500 while Pakistani semi-finalists Mohammad Asif and Asjad receuved $750 each.

Earlier, in the women’s final Ng On Yee of Hong Kong defeated Vidya Pillai of India 5-2 in a one-sided final.

Yee got off to sterling start by pocketing the first four frames with consummate ease as Pillai watched haplessly from the chair.

However, with Yee dominating in the first four frames, Indian took the next two frames to salvage some pride. But before Pallai could offer any threat Yee routed her opponent to seize the title.

Yee claimed $1,000 prize money while Pallai received $500.

Team event starts on Wednesday with Pakistan’s top pair Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Sajjad clashing Malaysia in their opening match.
