ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik defended the ban imposed on motorcycle riding in Karachi and Quetta on the first of Muharram.
Malik said the decision was made after intelligence reports were received that motorcycles would be used as bombs and the ban was approved by Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf.
Malik also tweeted that the federal government exercised its power under article 148 of the constitution to ban the movement of motorcycles during religious processions in Karachi.
