Amid a seemingly never-ending debate on who's the football's greatest of all time (GOAT) involving Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, former Manchester United star Tom Heaton has put his weight behind the Portuguese striker as the best-ever player to have graced the football field.

Heaton, a former Manchester United goalkeeper and ex-teammate of Ronaldo, believes that the Al Nassr star supersedes Messi in the list of all-time greats.

Recalling his experience with Ronaldo, Heaton stressed that the R7 has succeeded in maintaining the same hunger and drive over the years as he had reflected when he first signed with the Man United.

"In my opinion, the GOAT is Cristiano [...] What he has achieved has been incredible," goal.com reported quoting MUTV.

The Al Nassr star and Messi are often pitted against one another by football fans and critics alike with some favouring the Portuguese star, whereas some consider the Argentine striker as football's best-ever player.

In a career spanning more than a decade, Ronaldo, now 38, has played for various clubs including Real Madrid, Juventus and others and recently reached a landmark milestone by featuring in the 1,200th match of his career.

During his first tenure with United, Ronaldo not only scored a remarkable tally of 118 goals but also managed to bag Premier League and Champions League titles along with his first Golden Balls.
