52-foot dead Fin Whale washes ashore on San Diego beach

A colossal 52-foot Fin Whale washed ashore on Pacific Beach in San Diego, creating a scene that captivated locals and drew the attention of various agencies. 

The lifeless whale, discovered early morning off Santa Rita Place, raised concerns as it bled from its side. Michael Milstein from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) noted that the bleeding likely resulted from birds pecking at the whale rather than a substantial injury.

Efforts by lifeguards to tow the whale back into the sea proved unsuccessful, prompting a gathering of spectators, including personnel from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department and the Police Department.

Researchers from NOAA arrived later, creating a perimeter to conduct investigations into the cause of the whale's death. Despite being a female juvenile, the whale displayed no evident propeller marks or gashes that could indicate a vessel-related demise.

As researchers collected data and took photographs, the mystery surrounding the whale's death deepened. Milstein urged the public to give researchers space, emphasising the unknown cause of death. 

The NOAA team is committed to swiftly removing the massive creature from the beach, planning to tow it offshore and allow it to sink. The unfolding events underline the need for caution and respect for the natural process as scientists work to unravel the enigma behind the Fin Whale's unexpected beaching.
