According to a study conducted by Italian restaurant chain Prezzo, a significant proportion of Gen Z and Millennials experience 'menu anxiety' when dining out.

The research discovered that 34% of individuals aged 18 to 24 admit to feeling so nervous that they ask others to choose and communicate their orders to the waiter. Moreover, 33% of those aged 25 to 34 base their food choices on what will look best on social media.

The survey delved into the dining hang-ups of young adults, revealing that 32% of Millennials, along with Gen Z, experience jitters when placing orders.

For 39.6% of 25 to 34-year-olds and 33.43% of 35 to 44-year-olds, the overwhelming number of menu items is a primary source of worry. Nearly 23% of respondents stated they would cancel restaurant plans if overwhelmed by the menu, while 38% of 18 to 24-year-olds avoid dining out unless they have thoroughly reviewed the menu.

Additionally, the study highlighted that 21% of restaurant-goers get others to order on their behalf, with higher instances among Gen Z and Millennials compared to Gen X and Baby Boomers.

Common causes of 'menu anxiety' include the cost of the meal (23%), not finding appealing options (17%), and the fear of regretting the order (12%).

To alleviate stress, 50% of respondents check the menu before visiting a restaurant, and 30% abstain from dining out without prior menu browsing.
